Avocado Toast and Elephant Birds

This morning, I made avocado toast for the first time. I toasted whole wheat bread. While it toasted, I cut the avocado, scooped it out and mashed it up with some pink salt, garlic powder, dill, and added a little olive oil. Finally, I smeared the avocado spread on the toast and tasted it. It was good. Not earth shattering or life changing. It was almost as good as an over easy egg on toast.

This afternoon I returned to studying The Designing Creatures & Characters book by Marc Taro Holmes. In the book it recommends using animal skeletons to build your imaginary creatures off of. I chose an elephant bird skeleton as a reference.

I’ve never seen a real elephant bird, because they are long extinct. I imagine they look something like a cassowary or an ostrich. This is what I came up with.

What do think? Have you seen a bird like this before?
