I finished watching season one of Scavengers Reign on Netflix in about two or three days. I would describe it as a mashup between Adventure Time and Raised by Wolfs with an art style similar to that of the video game Sable. It’s not silly like Adventure time, but it definitely has the same weirdness factor.

The story follows three different duos on the planet of Vesta. Vesta is a planet rife with life, some of it extremely deadly. The first duo are Azi and a worker bot named Levi. Azi is a black woman with a strong moral compass who does her best to just survive. Levi is an oddball who often spaces out when observing the strange creatures that live on planet Vesta.

The next duo is Sam and Ursula. Sam is the captain of the Demeter. He’s headstrong and acts like a father figure to Ursula. Ursula is similar to Levi in that she often spaces out in wonder of the strange lifeforms on Vesta. She is often seen carrying a sketchbook and drawing the life on the planet. Of all the characters she is the most capable and adaptable even if she seems unsure of herself at times.

The last duo is Kamen and the hollow. Kamen is a middle-aged man who always blames everyone but himself. He’s vengeful, cowardly and sad. The hollow is frog-like alien creature with strong psychic abilities. It saved Kamen from his escape pod that was stuck high in the forest canopy. It uses Kamen to help it find food in an unusual symbiotic relationship.

Through most of the show the characters travel through the different biomes to reach the spaceship, Demeter, in hopes of saving the crew still on the ship in cryo-sleep. They face off with dangerous creatures and hazardous environments.
It’s a great show. If you like sci-fi and beautiful animation you should definitely watch it. I highly recommend it. I give it a ten out of a ten.
