Learning to draw Anime

Here’s my attempt at drawing a character design example called sweaters & skirts from Christopher Hart’s The Master Guide to Drawing Anime. It’s not perfect, but I’m improving. Looking at it now I think I made the raised foot a hair too small. I tried to match the colors as close as I could, except for the ribbon. I thought a blue ribbon to match her eyes would make for a good change. After I finished this drawing, I got a few tips on drawing better lines from Saitou Naoki’s YouTube channel. I should have made the lines on her clothes and hair thinner and tapered. Also, I should have used a line with unvaried thickness on the outline of the character for a more cohesive look. I’m going to try and implement those tips on my next anime drawing.

Here’s a timelapse I made before I finished coloring it.

Also I started recording myself drawing. I’m not good at talking on camera yet, but maybe with some practice it will feel more natural. Anyway here’s one I did recently. It’s not anime or manga. It’s just me drawing in my sketchbook.

My YouTube Channel is super small right now. I only have a total of five subscribers. It would help a lot if you liked my videos and shared them with your friends and family, even if it’s just to say how bad my drawings are. The algorithm doesn’t care. It just wants to see clicks and comments. I know I have a ton of room for improvement.
